Will my key fab unlock car doors even after alarm system has been removed?

My Dad removed the aftermarket alarm system from my 1986 Cadillac, and I still have the key fab with two ons. I have yet to replace the broken little battery in the fab, so I have not tried opening the doors with it yet.
