The type of bike you're talking about is called a "hybrid" and almost every manufacturer has several hybrid models. I commute on a Giant Seek, but they have other lines with different geometries. The geometry is key when it comes to comfort on a bike. Go to your LBS and ask them if you can ride a few of them around the block. Find the one that feels right for you.
